It's fight week once again, and we are back with your A.I. predictions for UFC 299. Last week at UFC Vegas 87, the language model went (3-2) missing on Rozenstruik and Petrino. That brings the overall win/loss total to (51-21-1). With one of the most hyped cards all year on deck, let's see if our A.I. can pull out a clean sweep this week.
Main Event: Sean O'Malley (c) vs. Marlon Vera – Bantamweight Championship
Analysis: This is a long-awaited rematch everyone's been craving. Vera holds a controversial win from their first encounter, making this a true grudge match. Vera is a grinding, pressure-heavy fighter, while O'Malley relies on his precision and power striking. The key for Vera will be taking the fight to the ground, nullifying O'Malley's range.
Prediction: I lean towards Sean O'Malley for the win. He's evolved dramatically since their last fight, with a more well-rounded game. However, if Vera can implement a grinding, grappling-centric strategy, it could lead to an upset.
Co-Main Event: Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint-Denis – Lightweight
Analysis: Poirier remains a force but faces a rising star in the fearless Saint-Denis. This fight boils down to experience vs. youthful tenacity. Poirier has the power and technical boxing advantage, but Saint-Denis has momentum and unorthodox striking that could cause problems.
Prediction: I'm leaning towards Dustin Poirier for the win. His battle-tested experience should give him the edge, but things could change quickly if Saint-Denis lands a highlight-reel strike.
Kevin Holland vs. Michael Page – Welterweight
Analysis: Style clash alert! Holland is long and aggressive, with a volume-based approach. Page is a flamboyant, kick-heavy striker known for flashy moves. Holland needs to close the distance and force ugly exchanges, while Page will want to maintain distance and pepper Holland with unusual strikes.
Prediction: This is a tough one, but I'll give the slight edge to Kevin Holland. His consistent pressure and takedown threat might be enough to stifle Page's game plan.
Gilbert Burns vs. Jack Della Maddalena – Welterweight
Analysis: A clash between an established veteran and a breakout prospect. Burns is a beast on the ground but is also dangerous on the feet. Della Maddalena is a crisp technical striker with knockout power.
Prediction: I'm going with Jack Della Maddalena to pull off the upset. His technical striking and momentum give him the edge over an aging, but still very dangerous, Burns.
Petr Yan vs. Song Yadong – Bantamweight
Analysis: A pivotal contender fight in the bantamweight division. Yan is a ruthless striker with a high-pressure style, while Song is a heavy hitter finding his rhythm. Expect fireworks as these two throw down.
Prediction: This fight could go either way, but I’m giving a very slight edge to Petr Yan. His experience and ability to grind should be the deciding factor.
UFC 299 takes place on March 9th, 2024 at Kaseya Center, Miami, Florida, early prelims start at 4 pm EST, with the main card kicking off at 8 pm EST on ESPN+ PPV (US), and BT Sport Box Office (UK)
